Do we have to bring our kippah?
No, you do not have to bring the kippah you get in the morning. If you'd like to wear your kippah you are more than welcome but there is no requirement because we are not in synagogue.

Gift Giving
Gift giving can be stressful and we don't want you to be stressed so, here is what is generally done. Some people give cash, Israel Bonds (like a Canada Savings Bond), or a keepsake. It is customary if giving monetary gifts that it's done in increments of 18. The reason being 18 is the Hebrew word "chai" which means "life", therefore symbolically blessing the recipient with a good long life.
If you are bringing a gift, it should be given in the evening. During Shabbat money should not be handled or passed from person to person. As well, one should not carry things on shabbat (it's considered work).
Info for Israel Bonds:
If you click the email link you will email the Ottawa office. They have our information on file. You can also phone 613-792-1142

Horah
Horah is a dance to express joy. "Hava Nagila" is played and those who want to participate form a circle holding hands or lock arms, step forward to the right with the left foot, then follow with the right foot and so on. You will figure it out! The honourees take turns being raised on a chair in the middle of the circle. It's terrifying but fun!
